Ethical aspects

Fleur Flipse

Children are the most volunerable part of our society, education should support the growth and development this children. Children are very dependent on education since it can determine their future, not only with the knowledge they gain during their schoolcarreer but also for the (social)skills a child learns througout the time spend in school. Modern technology already plays a big role in our education, think of the laptops we use in school, projects like these that are done almost completely online, digital boards that are used to teach us and the internet is the biggest source of knowledge nowadays. However robotics such as AI is not quite implemented in our education system quite yet, many people are scared that when a teacher is subsituted by a robot, children will have a lack of communicationskills. Will robotics even be ethically accepted in school?

I certainly think that robotics in schools will be ethically accepted if we implement it the right way. Enough research must be done to make sure children will not have disadvanteges of the fact that the robitics are used and to check if it is more productive.

Also I think it would make a difference over what time period we implement the robotics, if the chances take place within a few months this will scare people of since we as human beings want to have as much control as we can. It is of course more likely that the chances will that place over a much larger time period, the systems will developed and will be able to completely subsitute teachers and maybe will give children the change to get taught from wherever they are.

On the other side I really understand the concerns, communicating with a robot is indeed very different to communicating with a real human, even if the robot should be capable of anything a human can do. Since childhood is the part of your life you really develop your communication and social skills it is important to be in contact with as much people as possible. When only the teacher is subsituted by a robot, the children will have the communication with their classmates but the way you communicate with a teacher or adult in general is so different to this.

In the end, robotics in education will be ethically accepted. We don't really have a choice since our future lies in advanced technology such as AI. The education system will have to change like it always has done and will adjust to our future generations. You can't deny that in the end our education system will exist out of robots, the only question is how big the imput of these robots will be.
